Our Divisions
Our main business is and always will be the growing, processing, marketing and distribution of our farm broiler chickens.
We are simply custodians of the natural resources with which we have been blessed and so in our quest to become even more responsible, efficient, and sustainable as poultry farmers, our business has organically diversified into an array of different divisions.
Broiler Division
With almost 100 poultry houses and a purpose-built high throughput abattoir, our broiler business is the mainstay of our Company.
What makes Spif Chicken different?
We only sell chickens that we grow ourselves on our own farms.
We never buy any chicken from outside independent producers to slaughter. This allows us to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and guarantees our customers 100% traceability from farm to fork.
We slaughter and process our chickens in our own export approved and FSA accredited abattoir.
Our abattoir works a single shift and does not operate over weekends. This allows us to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire processing plant between shifts and gives us enough time to complete routine maintenance. By doing so the quality of our products is never compromised and the highest standards of hygiene are always maintained.
We never brine inject any Spif Chicken.
When our customers buy chicken, they get chicken and do not pay for unnaturally added salt water!
Cropping Division
Slurry and manure from our piggery, poultry litter from our chicken houses and feather waste from our chicken abattoir are converted into a nutrient rich compost that is used to fertilise the soil that produces the maize and sunflowers that are grown in our cropping division.
Beef Division
We believe in utilising every square metre of our farms. The fields between our poultry sheds are grazed by our Bonsmara beef herd while maize from the Cropping Division helps supplement the herd’s nutritional requirements. All our cattle are free range and our beef is sold exclusively at our very own Farm Stall on the farm.
Wildlife Division
The more mountainous areas of our farm that are not conducive to either poultry, pig, cattle or crop farming are home to an abundance of wildlife including giraffe, kudu, nyala, eland, zebra, wildebeest and a myriad of other species. Surplus game is captured and sold on auction every second year.
Piggery Division
At Spif Chicken we do not believe in wasting any resources and so all excess protein from our chicken abattoir is formulated and converted via an on farm scientific extrusion process into pig feed for our piggery.
Our piggery operates a F1 closed herd multiplication system that produces Camborough grower pigs for slaughter.
